Some more questions :D

1. Why is the RAM so small? Swiss Manager Pro 1.7 says that there are 63 MB in total, 49 for the user and 16 system. But, after rebooting the phone, Swiss shows 15 apps running (14 system, 1 Swiss) and only 16-18, rare 20 MB free. This OS eats too much RAM, for nothing...
Are there optimizations needed to be made? Or this it... ?

2. In Swiss Manager Pro 1.7... What is "Reclaim memory"? Also, there are 3 levels : 1, 2 and 3. When reclaiming memory at level 3, the CPU reaches highest usage for 1-2 seconds, and it takes longer than at other levels. It usually releases 0 apps and 0-4 KB, but I notice the application list changing, like one or more apps have been ended or moved up/down.

3. Still at Swiss :P... There are 2 more bars in the right of the clock and CPU & RAM meter. One is for battery (which, btw, doesn't display the correct battery %), but what is the other bar for?!

4. Still at Swiss :P :D... In the application list, in right of each app there is a number (196K for example). What's the pattern? How much RAM 196K means? Because if I end an app that eats 1806K, there isn't 1.8 MB released...

5. ISN'T THERE ANY WAY TO MAKE THE ZOOM AT LARGE REZOLUTION AVAILABLE IN PHOTO CAMERA? ALSO TO ENABLE MUSIC TRACK REWIND & SWITCH, AND IMAGE SWITCH FROM VIEWING? ~X( Then, why the hell is the circle with next/previous/play/pause/stop/gallery there anymore? Anyway 40% of its functions are just useless! ~X( Are there any mods to make this possible? I guess not? :((

6. Is there any application, secret code or mod to make the camera flash stay lit on? It's so good in the dark :X.

Hey,mate..I think Swiss Manager is for SE. That's why it's not 100% working. To make the zoom available in 2 megapixel resolution,it's the OS dependant. To enable rewind or such in music player,the alternative is by using LCG Jukebox. Image switch from viewing can be done by using Xplore. You even can zoom to the limit.:)
I think you have been so mad with Z8. The next Elegance based on 2393 will be out soon. So,just wait for it.:)

My Z8 had a 16% free RAM. But after restarting,it showed as 33% free RAM. This OS really eats much RAM. I still don't know the reclaim memory on swiss manager. It has no effects at all.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Best case scenario is 21 MB of free RAM, and worst is 16 MB (after reboot). It oscillates ~4 MB after each reboot >.< .

Okay, so it's a OS issue... I thought my phone is problematic :P .

Reclaim memory releases either 0 KB either 4 KB of RAM :P . I think it's for SE... Dunno what it's doing though.

Btw,not just UIQ on Z8 which has so much problems. I heard that P990 also has some bugs. Here's the list of bugs in P990 :
As for me, the most serious bugs/issues/disadvantages are:

- poor memory management. It really isn't normal that free memory goes lower and lower as you use the phone. After one or two days it can even reach 4 or 6 MB, with NOTHING shown as running by Task Manager! And after the free memory reaches such a low level, there soon comes issue #2:

- "The phone has rebooted to improve performance". It's a spontaneous reboot, not necessarily when you're doing something but actually anytime in low memory situation. It may even happen when you have the phone in your pocket: some system task kicks in and takes some more memory and the device reboots.... and waits for PIN code. You may realise this only after many hours when you check the phone...

- Speed dial thumbnails are so hideous that I can't look at them Wink (BTW. Does anybody know what is the best resolution for contact pictures in UIQ 3?) And why full screen caller picture is no longer supported? It was such a nice feature...

- the volume via both the loudspeaker and the wired headphones is DEFINITELY TOO LOW. It is noticeably lower than in P910 and MUCH, MUCH lower than in Nokia's S60 phones. My E61's loudspeaker is 10x louder than P990's and the headphones play much louder, too.

- after I updated my P990 with current firmware, the screen started to flicker, as on CRT monitors with low refresh rate.

- I consider lack of Calculator, RSS reader and video player in FC mode a bug Wink

- One can't create shortcuts on the Activity screen to midlets. I wanted to have a shortcut to Opera mini...

- Unlike in P910, alarms are now only indicated by an icon nearby the current time, the time of the upcoming alarm isn't shown anywhere. Maybe it could be done the same way as in previous models so that both current time and the alarm time are shown? There's plenty of space on the Activity screen...

- Activity screen and the free space on it. It would be great if it was used for something, e.g. RSS feeds. Or, even better, custom plugins. Developers are very inventive and may create fantastic plugins we can't even think of now... It doesn't have to be C++, as I wrote above, I remember Sendo X supporting plugins based on XML (or some other scripting language).

- Nokia managed to squeeze out additional 5 MB of free RAM in the latest N93 firmware. Maybe it's doable in the P990, too? It would solve all these low memory situations when you launch Wayfinder and it kills Messaging working in the background and you miss scheduled email downloads....

- Why not make the "Open" tab and the "End" function of Task Manager available in FC mode as well?

- The camera viewfinder screen should have a cross or a frame showing the autofocus area.

- Some kind of small progress bar in Full screen / Landscape (like the one in P910's standard browser) would be more than useful.

- There is a bug with font sizes. Sometimes some applications in FO mode show larger font (like the one in FC mode).

- Fonts in FC mode should all be smaller. I don't get it why smaller screen in FC mode has bigger fonts than larger screen in FO mode. For me it would be more logical if the font was actually SMALLER in FC than in FO considering that there is less screen space, or at least if it was of the same size..

OMFG ! #1 and #2. Of course it eats more and more memory. Even Contacts, Messaging, Recent Calls, EVEN INSERTING A NUMBER, CALLING A CONTACT OR WRITING A MESSAGE eats even MORE RAM, besides Contacts, Messaging, Recent Calls etc. It's... crazy. I saw this in Swiss Manager Pro. Every damn menu icon you press eats more RAM (application) =)) . And if you have Contacts, Messaging, Agenda, Recent Calls and 4-5 more system applications running, if you run Camcorder or Camera, you have 90% chances of getting a "Home is restarting", which will last more than 10 minutes (I had to reinsert the SIM card and "Reboot as normal", in order to NOT lose the settings). I just hope the new Elegance 2 based on 2393 has all these fixed 8-> .

You know how can you by-pass this reboot-because-memory-is-low ( :P ) problem? Use Swiss Manager Pro 1.7. Set it up in so way that it will automatically close all running apps (including system - Contacts, Agenda etc.) after a determined period of time. It works. It does close all applications, it makes it like you just rebooted :) . Speaking of reboot... We should have this option in Shutdown menu >.< .

One more bug (I suppose the P990 also has it) : in Tools -> Time, there are only THREE alarms. You cannot REMOVE them or ADD more ;) . THIS ****ING SUCKS ~X( !

One more bug. The Task Manager sucks. It also shows applications that you had run BEFORE booting up =)) , even if you don't have them running right now =)) .

I like the trick you auto-ended the applications. I've flashed the Elegance 2393 and I can tell you that it's stable enough. There's no problem so far. I haven't checked the RAM yet. Cool DRM and all iPhone alike interface.:)
I'll explore my Z8 tonight. :)
Btw,there's no way to change fonts in this flash. I've put the fonts into Resource folder but after restarting the phone,nothing changed.:(

Man, I don't auto-end the applications. I just told you there's this option in Swiss Manager Pro 1.7. You can set it in so way to end automatically all applications (including system) after a pre-determined period of time (which you also can set from options menu). I have it setted up, but I use Swiss Manager Pro 1.7 only when I need it. I don't keep it running all the time, because I am running some tests to see how good the battery is.

The DRM is nice, yes, but there are some problems... Only the signal meter, connection meter, battery meter and USB indicator are iPhone-alike. Others such as Silent profile indicator, Bluetooth indicator, Message indicator, Call indicator, Internet connection indicator, Alarm indicator etc. are the same - stock. It's too bad that we cannot change the DRM along with the theme or some folder in E:\Resource too :(( :D .

Perhaps you did something wrong... You CAN change fonts in Elegance 2.0. I had Fonts in E:\Resource, with the N95 font Tankrider made for me and it was working. The only thing you can't change is the sub-menu icons :( . I hate this iPhone-alike menu, especially the items in Tools, Connectivity and Media Studio >.< . HOW TO CHANGE THEM?! ~X(
