There is alot you can do with the V3i and there is alot of information on different mods about. Monster Packs can be standard stock combos or they can be pre-modded like that from Dmatt-Dev which will have everything already done that you may want and usually has some kind of documentation for it so you will know what you are dealing with. As araeff said make sure and back up at all times because it's a mistake that has been made by us all at some point or the other and we paid the price. You can probably check out some skins now and move on to DRM. Try some of the DRM created (make sure it's for your phone) that some people made and maybe even try making one of your own. We will be able to help you with this even and there is alot of resources for Skins and DRM. You can check out the Skin God Araeff if you go this way as well. Keep on reading and learning and you will see how tempted you will be to do some more modding. Enjoy your Moto.

you'll need to flash with RSD Lite (google it)

any V3i DRM in the DownLoad Area is fine for you mate

Yup get your hands on RSD Lite (Google is your friend). I think that RSD Lite 2.7 works best for V3i (IMO). Try your hands at those and get familiar with the installation. Whenever you feel comfortable we could even help you look into some ports too. But one step at a time.

yipeeee!!!!! just installed my first drm.... its a DG drm from this awesome website..... hehehe it changes the colors of the battery and signal strength meters.... wow, guys thanks for th continuing guide. how about monster packs? will it bring about same result?

Let's not jump to far ahead. You can switch DRM has much as you want. Maybe try fonts and skins.

MP will change everything on your phone. You loose sound and image files. Any phone number not stored on the sim card. Games will be gone.

drm are specified thru models, if u own a V3 then u can flash V3 drm on it, non-itunes V3i for a non-itunes v3i, itunes V3i for an itunes v3i, etc..

ic... yes you're perfectly right on that. i never regret getting this phone.....was thinking of getting a windows mobile phone again coz i used to own one before. (that thought of getting a nokia never crossed my mind hahaaha) so i think i made a good choice getting this phone.... might go ahead and get a v3x or that krzr k3 thing. by itself, without even doing any mods, our moto phone look pretty darn good already right? what more if we could do modifications to it. so again my sincerest gratitude to you guys.... fldodger, araeafff, wildcards and the rest of the members of this great site.

R479 is the phone model, I think this is a V3i. the rest of the numbers are flex edition and release number.

as long as the first 4 (R479) are the same and the BootLoader matches,

just remember to make a back up and have a fully charged battery!!!

Always helps to back up and please ensure you have a full battery. Another thing I would like to mention is to be wary before you try any flash file. It's good practice to read up the reviews and postings and observe the problems that others report. Also be careful what you download as there have also been instances where Flash files were incorrectly named and ended up bricking the phone as the user would not have known it was the incorrect type. Take your time and so some other small flashes like DRM and Fonts. MP are known to have improved performance in certain aspects. Weigh out if this is what you want because as they say "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it.......that is until you are totally fed up of it. Enjoy your modding

i got greeeaaat news guys..... i did my first flashing of an MP wehehehehehe.... though there was a moment there when i though i bricked the phone...... things i noticed.... like you said make sure the battery is really really full before doing any flashing...... then in process of flashing it, i was on the stage where the "checksums are verified" but what happened was i got a "FAILED" message. really though i bricked my phone there. dunno what happened next but when i turned it on again, the interface of the phone, skins, fonts, colors and all were changed... ehehehe..... whew.......... modding a motorola is INTENSE ehehehehehe.... so now i have or use this MP R479_iPhone_Woody_Joker gots lots of cools skins and the interface got a bit faster.....

any other MPs which you could recommend my master modders?

Good for you mate... Try this one first, maybe after a week u try another... Getting a good MP, you can always refer to its features or readme for a better knowledge.

Congratulations! That is a good MP and I understand how it might even seem like a nail biting experience. You can even have a look at Dmatthew and Dev. Meena's MP. These 2 have proven themselves in this arena and the stuff they put out is A+++. Keep on backing up (Your Phone Book, Calendar etc.) and reading up on those MPs and other stuff and you will be right on.

Do not go for DMatt's or Dev's, theirs is for R47A, V3i Itunes... Yours is R479, you should try R4441D later on for a taste of Edge, like Archer said, the performance is really good and stable.

But please refer to this thread, List of Sticky Firmware (http://motomodding.us/viewtopic.php?t=1165) before moving on.

You are right araeff it totally slipped me that the phone was R479, I thought there was a Dmatt/Dev R479 version too. It is possible to flash R441D to R479. This does not have anything to do with R47A as this is for I-tunes it is RSA protected (correlets) for the i-tunes software. R441D I believe is sticky and you may not be able to go back to your original S/W version. As araeff said Please read the list of sticky software.

oooopssss.... might have done something wrong here..... i noticed that before i did that flashing, my phone charges the battery evertyime i plug it into m pc thru usb cable.... now it doesnt seem to charge.... did i miss anything?

It might have been disabled in that MP. Did you read anything on this before flashing, like what special features and edits were done to this MP?

no mention was made on the de.scription of this mp about the deactivation of the charging option thru usb. so how now do i reactivate the option of charging the fone once i plug it into the pc through usb cable? i only have one charger for the phone and i usually leave it at home. before, i used to charge only through usb cable but i think it got disabled because of my flashing the the MP.....

Ok here is the situation. To enable this (or at least check it) you will need:

1))old p2k man or p2k Advanced Editor should work as well to extract the SEEM.
2)XVI32to so the bit manipulation on the seem

1) Using the first program download to you computer SEEM 004a_0001. (Save a copy of this somewhere just in case you may want to recover it and use the)

2) Open SEEM 004a_0001 with XVI32.

3) Go to Address in the menu bar, then select Go to. (make sure that hexadecimal is selected).

4) Type in 0207 in the box and click Ok. It would send you to this address. To make sure of this just look to the bottom left hand corner of the XVI32 window and you should see this address.

5) Click on Tools in the menu bar and select Bit manipulation.

6) You should see another window pop up with some numbered boxes with checks (or not) in them.

7) offset 0207 - bit 0 (the box with 0 next to it, check/uncheck it by clicking in it)
Disable USB charging (1 off, 0 on)
1 = check the bit: Charge when plugged
0 = uncheck the bit: Don't charge when plugged
Disable charging your battery when you connect your phone to pc!

8) After you make your edit, click Set

9) Go to File in the menu bar and click on Save. (this would be your modded seem and you would have untouched copy in any event saved to another location just in case)

10) Upload your modded SEEM 004a_0001 using p2k Advanced Editor.

11) Restart you phone and you are in business.
