reinstall the P2k Driver, let the pc recognize the phone with the easiest programs to start, like motorola explorer, p2k tools or rsd lite...

Check to make sure you are data mode ( in usb setting)

I used to get this problem but once you reinstall the driver and use the manual install mod and point it to the folder you have the driver extracted to.

I think you may be having some sort of conflict. Do you have MPT installed? There is sometimes a conflict with the drivers for this and p2k. Uninstall that for the mean time, and re install the Moto Drivers again doing it manually and pointing it to your folder. Once you totally uninstall Motorola Phone Tools completely the only drivers that should be prompted for once you connect your phone are the 4 required for p2k. You should be able to flash you phone then.

I had a similar problem a while back.
Wildcard has a good point.
The only way I could get a connection was with the drivers in each folder.
Once I got rid of MPT, the problem went away.
The only thing I used MPT for was backing up my phonebook.
Now I just use Flash&Backup to do that.
The one thing is that with FB you can only flash it back to the same phone.

P2K tools has a facility to back up and restore your phone book as well so this could be another option for back up /restore this as well.

Didn't know that. Thanks.
Don't use p2k Tools that much.
I use Mexplorer more.

Yeah I only found it after some research and had to use it to restore my Phone book after I tried an MP. It can save in .csv format, didn't check for any other format at the time as I was spazzing to retrieve my phone book. If I am not mistaken it also keep the groups they are assigned to as well when you re install it.

I backed up the phone book with P2KToolsVS_3.0.7.759.
It does list all the numbers and categories.

Are you using Vista?

I don't think it is necessary to format your computer. As Fl asked are you using Vista because this OS has some issues with P2K.

Yup glad you are back on track. Another rule formed. "When trouble arises eliminate the easiest things first."

lessons learned? alot.... first, if there's trouble connecting phone to pc, it doesnt necessarily mean there's somethin wrong with the phone..... first check is usb cable is working or not.... then next is the drivers installed.....

another lesson learned, if possible dont fold the usb cable too much and bind too tightly. this happened to me coz i used to cram the usb cable of my v3i along with the adaptor and cable for my laptop in one clutch bag ehehehehe.

next lesson, if your usb cable is broke, look for someone who's not really into modding but has a motorola phone. he or she might just give you his or her cable (just like me hahahahha)

lastly, no matter what happens, keep your cool. if the phone hangs up, freezes or something went wrong while doing a mod, dont ever panic. just backtrack on what you did and of course consult the experts here in this website.

thanks!
