There is a discussion about the unbranded v3xx not having the 850 band and how well it will work with Cingular, which is who I use. According to comments, the 850 band seems to be Cingular's main network band. They also use the 1900 network band, which the unbranded has. v3xx's are tri and not quad banded, from all the information, I have.
.
In xlr8's map of p2k05 seems, he says:
.
offset 57 -bit 6: 900/1800 shows in Network > Network Setup > Band (1 on, 0 off)
offset 62 -bit 6: 850/1900 shows in Network > Network Setup > Band (1 on, 0 off)
bit 7: 1800 shows in Network > Network Setup > Band (1 on, 0 off)
.
So will a seem edit be the answer? I am not that knowledgeable about seem edits, but both the 850 and 900 bands seem to be there.

I think that by doing these seem edits, you just enable them to JUST SHOW the 850 band.I want to say that this does not mean that you enable the 850 band,it means that it just shows up at the menu.

bomber is right. It shows this in the menu, but we currently have no verification of whether the hardware can handle these bands. There are many menu options on moto phones that can be enabled that do nothing because the hardware doesn't support it. a good example is the 'backlight color' on the V3c...it's there if you do a seem edit, but when you select green, you don't get a green backlight

That's strange! Are you sure it isn't there, somewhere?

On my V3i it's in Settings under Network....It shows Service Tone on/off, Call Drop Tone on/off and Band set to Automatic.....if I hit change it will show me all 4 Bands but the Cingular V3xx doesn't have the Band Selection just the other two.......
As far as I know even if you enable the band the hardware doesn't support it
I use cingular and use the 1900 by choice on my V3 in the Northeast (usa)
and have no reception trouble whatsoever. So the unbranded should work fine in most areas the coverage map is huge if you in a population heavy area
