Installing themes?

Use the driver Here (http://motomodding.us/viewtopic.php?t=154) They are self installing. Download install them reboot pc and then connect the phone.

Do you mean make or install? If install, the easiest would be Motokit or P2KAE... If make, that's via graphic editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Imageready or CorelDraw, etc...

Yes, As along the Pk2 tools connects and you can read all the drive.

first u put the usb setting to data connection
then plug it into the computer with the data cable to the usb and mini usb
then open p2k and automatically detects ur phone if it sees it right?

Get the latest P2KCommander at http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/ to get the latest P2K Driver. I think the latest is 4.9.8.

after getting the p2k, what do i do next?

Connect the phone and start RSD lite. Maybe try to reflash any DRM that you like. Windows will then checking whether you have the appropriate driver, it will ask for P2K driver.

Every time Windows ask for a driver (normally they will look for 4 to 5 items in the process of detecting new hardware), just point to folder that P2K 2.9 was extracted. If you manage to do that, then you are connected already.

Changing Startup/Shutdown Animation:
Now you will start to use motokit,

1. Connect your phone to your PC and run Motokit. First time running Motokit, it will use default language, which is Chinese I guess. You have to change to English by selecting third menu from left and drop down the menu and select the second one from above and select 1033-US English.

2. In Motokit press your Alt+M key and select Startup&Powerdown Style.

3. Motokit will begin scanning your phone and a window will appear with 4 boxes for startupgif, startuptone, pwrdwngif, and pwrdwn tone.

Then it will begin detecting default setting on your phone,

4. Make sure startupgif and pwrdwngif are checked.

5. press the browse keys labeled "..." next to each change that you have checked and select the appropriate files that you are adding.

6. Restart your phone.

I have the same issue occasionally. The only way I have found that works for me is Starting RSD Lite and shuting it down again once it finds my phone. After that, P2k/motokit/etc. finds and connects to my phone.

(Sorry, but I can't link to ANY version of RSD Lite as it's considered WAREZ! Google is your friend with those links in this case.)

whats the difference between p2kae and p2k 2.9?

Whole lots of differences, coz its a different programs and different functions. P2KAE is like a tweak program for those who dont want to mess around with seems, while P2K 2.9 is the driver for Windows to recognize Motorola phones, and P2K Commander is the Explorer kind of things.

after i installed motokit, the thing will not read my phone. i tried other programs like rsd lite, skinner4moto, skiman and they all work but motokit doesnt read the phone.

Motokit will not read Z3. You will have to do it the hard way.
Use P2KTools v3.0.3 build 435. (http://motomodding.us/viewtopic.php?t=162)

Then Create Custom startup/shutdown (custwakeup.gif & custgoodbye.gif) animation (176 x 220) and store them in /a/ folder.

Then reboot and see if they work. If not then you will need to do seem edits

Activate Custom startup (custwakeup.gif) animation - SEEM 004a_0001 > offset 23 [Set 01]

Activate Custom shutdown (custgoodbye.gif) animation - SEEM 0032_0001 > offset 46 > bit 0 [Check]

Anyone ever try to edit or create *.tcf files? On my v3i, I have "Themes" enabled, and their is a file in my "c:\mobile" folder in my phone named "Scarlet.TCF", there is also a Scarlet listed under my Themes menu. I can open the file with XVi32, but when I try to create a new file that has similar contents, after I have installed it on my phone, I get a message that tells me that the file is corrupt. Any Ideas? Has anyone had any luck editing these files(*.tcf)?
