Any and all suggestions gladly accepted, even if they seem far fetched.
Can be another MMUS first, if we solve this.
We are able to delete the skin, for example "disco."
The files in the directory are deleted, but the directory is still there
and shows in the skin menu on the phone.
The problem is generally known, but no answer has been found.
I also can not delete the ss_disco jpg or wp_disco...jpg in /a
I have used p2kComm4.9.G, M-Explorer and Most.
I have a smart trick to do that (until p2kc can recursively delete folder content)
set both left and right panel to p2k drive
left one /a/mobile/skins
right one /a/mobile/skins/disco
So left show folders, right one files in disco
select all files on the right and delete it
on the left display folder list remain untouched and you can delete disco folder (which is now empty)
done
If there are existing empty skin folder (this is visible in phone menu ). look at its exact name.
Create a folder with the same name. Will there a folder and a file in it.
Do previous 2 panel trick and done.
This was already descibed here (more than a year ago):
http://www.el-co.hu/smf/index.php/topic,101.0.html
Anyway the correct solution will be if P2kCommander will recursively do file and folder operations.....
Good luck

Yes. Not sure why.
MotoCat has looked at the flex and said:
The name 'Disco' (unicode) shows up a few times in the flex when viewed with xvi32. But until the flex structure is understood 'erasing' it there could cause some undesirable side effects in other areas. I will try to make some sense of it though.
There might be some kind of flag on the folder somewhere that locks
it.
I am looking at the Flex with Ultra Edit.

The only way to get rid of the skin name on your phone's list is to
restore a previous backup.
I guess the only way at this point is the load some skins.
Than decide which ones you I like, and then flash your backup,
then re-load only the new ones you like.
Otherwise the list of skins in the menu grows,
in spite of removing the skin files using SkiMan, M-Explorer, or p2kComm49G

We are making progress.
All the credit has to go to
MotoCat.
Too early to say it is solved.
Removed the disco skin from phone.
Hex edited the flex.
Flashed it back and Disco is gone from the Menu

After getting a lesson from MotoCat in Hex editing
and a few other things....
I deleted the Glow skin.
We now have this.
Still too early to say problem is solved, but we are getting there.
Thanks MotoCat!

Working on a guide to hex edit the flex to remove skin folders
until another method is found.
Will post it either today or tomorrow.
ss_disco jpg has strange file attribute.
What if you set attrib before delete?
you can enter a hex value instead of bit chekmarks

Have tried it.
Even if you change the attribute, the folder is still there.
Deletes from p2kcommander, but still in the menu.

MotoCat and I used xvi32 and went through and deleted all the BLOCKS
that had the name Disco and it's related files disco1.dat etc.
MotoCat also made a skin folder named TestSkin and removed it as well.
The phone seems ok so far. The files are in unicode format and there
are blocks that relate to each file. We were able to find it easier
because the flex is close to empty. There are some codes in front of
each file and after the file as well, we erased all of it.
Don't understand the file coding but it would be necessary to make
a flex skin delete program work safely.
If you want to try it, you do a string search for the Disco folder.
First, make sure you have delete the Disco skin from the phone.
Go into FB3 'firmwares' menu and load your flex_CG2.sbf backup
and save the CG2 as an .smg file.
Open XV132 and load CG2.smg.
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/tkalli/Moto/xv132-7.jpg
1. In SEARCH, FIND, Hex string, enter these hex numbers:
46 F7 00 4E 00 00 04 05 02 04 00 07
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/tkalli/Moto/xv132-2.jpg
It should find Disco in unicode format,
it has 00 between each letter D 00 i 00 s 00 c 00 o
Just change everything from the search string 46 F7 00 4E --> etc. to
hex FF all the way so that everything on that page is nothing but FF,
also remove the 5 bytes located 256 bytes before the search string,
it starts with hex FE. Change those 5 bytes to hex FF also.
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/tkalli/Moto/V3re_flex_skin_erase.jpg
*You can remove the Glow skin folder
Following the same steps but using this search string.
46 F7 00 71 00 00 04 05 02 04 00 07
When done editing the CG2.smg save it.
Go back into FB3 'firmwares' and load your flex.sbf and replace
or delete/add your newly modded CG2.
Please post any questions in the thread.
If you are having problems, please also post screen shots.
This will work, until we can find an easier way.
Good Luck!

Nice guide tk!
You mentioned this but just want to again remind anyone who tries this to first remove the skin files from the folder you want to delete. Also, don't remove the Alkali skin/files unless you put on another FULL skin.
The Disco and Glow skins have been removed for a while now and all seems well so far.

It has been a long time since we did the Flex editor.
Don't know if it will work with the v3ire.
Before you do anything, make sure you have a backup using FB3.
