changing the backround

how do you change the backround so that when you go to the main menu, the backround is shaded or darker? do u have to put in a whole new skin or just add a gif?

just change transparency value of the main menu id in S4M, in V3i its row 69 in color. 0 to full solid and 255 to full transparency.
