Well I just wanted to find out what other hobbies you guys and gals do beside modding your motos. I am also in to Do It Yourself Home Theater for instance I have a Subwoofer sitting in my living room waiting for it's amp to arrive. I frequent those DIY Home Audio and HT forums alot. Besides that I am in to computers but I work in that field and when I get home I really don't care to be up in that too much hence why you don't see me online during the night. What's your other hobby?

Nice, I used to play alot of basketball from High School to Club but as I got older the injuries took a bigger toll till I had to stop fro almost a year and I only recently started back about a couple of months now. I mostly shoot around and play by myself and entertain if someone wants to play too. I used to do like 3-4 times a week now it's just once. Can't risk re-injuring my self for my job and my family's stake. Right now DIY audio is what occupies me alot especially since I got married. The only reason my wife likes it is because it keeps me out of trouble but other than that she complains about me breaking her wares with low bass. :)

I've been playing guitar for about 16 years, and I guess my friends consider me a "computer nerd" since i seem to be on more than i am off lately, I like to cook and go to clubs (check out Vino's and Juanita's if you ever find yourself in the Little Rock Arkansas area!) and I'm a part time pc repair technician for a few small businesses in the area, simple network setups, hardware/software install and config etc... and I recently bought a 1978 Suburban that is my new project (also i'm a self proclaimed "shade tree" mechanic)

Interesting thread, clever.
Since I am finishing up my PhD in Neurological Psychology and doing what I have to on the side to make $$ for what my stipend doesn't cover, I have little time for hobbies. I am probably co-dependent on my two Yorkies, Genghis and Bijou who are smarter than many people in my program.
But I seriously have a sub-clinical obsession with cell phones and PDAs.

Getting a KRZR from someone to resurrect and mod the day lights out of it next month, she's changing her phone. DMatt did you ever play Magic: The Gathering? I played for about 4 of 5 years and had amassed a pretty substantial amount of cards, I was collecting the cards for deck building for tournament play, not to horde them (that was what my baseball/football card collection was for! ) but my good "friend" took them and sold 'em all! I think the most I ever spent on one card was about $25 or $30 but I found it to be incredibly easy to spend about $25-$30 a week on those cards. Looking back, it was still fun. :)

I love to see young fathers and mothers obsessing over thier young, and then I like to return when the young ones become teenagers. To see years of fustration and worry all over thier faces. Especially with the dads and thier daughters, Dads remember how they were as teenagers and they know that there is only one thing on a teenage boys mind. I have girls(in there thirties now) so I know and I have a son to complete the mix, who is a year younger than my grandson. Go figure.

Well, while I was "away", I have become an amateur radio "enthusiast" of sorts. I've got a Radio Shack Pro95 scanner - and a 2m ground plane antenna tuned to 120Mhz (which by the way, can be built using coat hangers, with incredible results!) - anyone else into amateur radio? Or what else are you people doing?

Wildcard26
06-21-2008, 10:16 PM
That sounds way interesting swamp. What exactly is it about?

swampsucka247
06-22-2008, 10:15 AM
I am still new at this - so here is a quote from http://www.wedothat-radio.org/hello/whatis.html that might explain it better than I could.

What is Ham Radio?
A housewife in North Carolina makes friends over the radio with another ham in Lithuania. An Ohio teenager uses his computer to upload a digital chess move to an orbiting space satellite, where it's retrieved by a fellow chess enthusiast in Japan. An aircraft engineer in Florida participating in a "DX contest" swaps his call sign and talks to hams in 100 different countries during a single weekend. In California, volunteers save lives as part of their involvement in an emergency response. And from his room in Chicago, a ham's pocket-sized hand-held radio allows him to talk to friends in the Carolinas. This unique mix of fun, public service and convenience is the distinguishing characteristic of Amateur Radio. Although hams get involved for many reasons, they all have in common a basic knowledge of radio technology and operating principles, and pass an examination for the FCC license to operate on radio frequencies known as the "Amateur Bands." These bands are radio frequencies reserved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by hams at intervals from just above the AM broadcast band all the way up into extremely high microwave frequencies.

And a little bit more

What are the Amateur Radio Bands?
Look at the dial on an old AM radio and you'll see frequencies marked from 535 to 1605 kilohertz. This is one radio "band." There are other bands of radio spectrum for amateur, government, military and commercial radio uses. If you could hear the many different bands, you would find aircraft, ship, fire and police communication, as well as the so-called "shortwave" stations, which are worldwide commercial and government broadcast stations from the U.S. and overseas. Amateurs are allocated 26 bands (i.e., specific groups of frequencies) spaced from 1.8 Megahertz, which is just above the broadcast radio frequencies, all the way up to 275 Gigahertz! Depending on which band we use, we can talk across town, around the world, or out to satellites in space. Hams can even bounce signals off the moon!

It's not that expensive to get started - pawn shops and even wal-mart usually have equiptment for sale - in fact - i bought mine used for $40U.S. Haven't spent a dime since. I built my own antenna from plans i found on the net and used materials that I already had laying around the house.

Wildcard26
06-22-2008, 01:34 PM
That sounds amazing indeed. Great hobby. Never pay much attention to AM frequencies and all but as it's explained a little there I see what this is about a bit.
