First, Welcome to the forum.
Not sure why it only shows 5 calls.
A lot can be done by seem edits. Seem edits require a Hex editor.
The seems in MOST motorola phones that controls this is:

SEEM 0050_0001/0051_0001 controls number of entries in received/dialed numbers list

both offsets must be changed
offset 8F - set to number of calls you want in hex (ie. "14" would give you 20 calls; "32" gives you 50 calls; max out at "3C" for 60 calls)
offset 93 - set to number of calls you want in hex (ie. "14" would give you 20 calls; "32" gives you 50 calls; max out at "3C" for 60 calls)

There is a guide to seem editing HERE (http://xlr8.us/hofo/)
and
Here (http://www.mmus.us/forum/showthread.php?t=1765&highlight=xlr8+edit)
You can get a seem editor HERE (http://www.mmus.us/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=2069)

I don't have an L9 so I am sure those that do, may have a better answer.
