Absolutely starting from scratch; warnings, advice?

I am completely new to the process and would like to avoid any foreseeable pitfalls.
My biggest gripe about my phone are the China Mobile icon on my main menu, specifically the Customer Service and the China Mobile Internet (not my main browser). I'm doing my best to educate myself , so I don't ask annoying questions, but am I correct that I will need a Monster pack to remove those?
Here is all my current info:

I have downloaded the following soft ware

S/W: R4441D-G-08.01.03R

Our resident expert FlDodger wasn't familiar with this s/w, is anyone else?

Your R4441D-G-08.01.03R is what they call a stickey firmware.

You canNOT change it. Your can upgrade as long as the firmware is the same.
I will see if I can find you a MP.

I think this one is the only CM firmware that is not sticky. All the newer ones are but I think he is okay with 01.03R. Just wanted to stop in as new job has got me real tied up and haven't had much time lately. Forum looks GREAT!!

What I think I would like to do then, is get Tmo firmware, so I can have IM, and more importantly, get rid of this China Mobile $&^$.

Nope, you can't have T-Mo firmware.... it would kill your phone in flashing. Follow the guide, trust me, it wont take more than, 10 minutes

So, having carefully read the unbranding guide in all it's glory, the section on deleting stock files has a sobering warning "Use this tutorial at your own risk. This mod is not for beginners and can cause serious damage to your phone. I take no responsibiliy for any damaged done to your phone even if you follow my tutorial exactly."
So let me ask you all this, what is a simple mod, good for a first time out?
Recommendations for doing a search for a MP?

Well, I didnt found it that difficult.... you dont have to go deleting everything in your phone... deleting harmless stuff like stocks pictures, tones and videos is a good start....
